WORKSHOPS
Tuck vs Curl
Presented by Matilda Christensen
When we thrust our pelvis forward, our weight is transferred through the front of our legs, our quadraceps and calves have to now over work to stabilize our pelvis, and our lumbar spine becomes distorted by forceful flattening and compression of the spine (we are tucking).
When our pelvis balances on top of our legs and under our spine with minimal exertion, and we lift our abdominals up and away from the lengthening of our low back without forceful flattening thus decompressing our spines (we are curling). This is one of the most difficult Pilates principles to see and teach to our clients and to feel within our own bodies.
In this workshop we will explore fundamental movement patterns of our pelvis in order to get a deeper understanding of the differance between a tuck and a curl in the standing, sitting, supine and prone positions. We will then take our newfound knowledge and look at a variety of exercises on different pieces of equipment and explore the tuck vs curl concept even further.
